Obituary of Sophie Washenko
Sophie Washenko, age 92 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Nicholas Washenko, died May 23, 2016, at the Hewitt Health and Rehab Center, Shelton. Born in Edwardsville, PA on November 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Sabovich Kohanowski. Mrs. Washenko was a longtime resident of Shelton and member of Three Saints Orthodox Church. She was an employee of the former Waterman Pen Company and worked as a receptionist for the former Mecca’s Beauty Salon, both of Seymour. She is survived by sons, Nicholas (Eva) Washenko of Shelton, Paul (Ann) Washenko of Orange and Peter (Sue) Washenko of Shelton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Washenko; sisters, Anne Matejek, Mecca and Esther Kohanowski and brother, Charles Kohanowski. At the family’s request, all funeral services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia.
