Obituary of Johanna E. Popowchak
POPOWCHAK – Johanna E. (Wysocki) Popowchak, age 80 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Paul Popowchak, died peacefully on June 22, 2016, at her home. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Rose (Boretski) Wysocki. Mrs. Popowchak was a lifelong resident in Ansonia and was very active with Saint Peter & Paul Church as well as the senior centers in Derby, Shelton, and Ansonia. She is mostly remembered for her love of bingo which she tried to attend regularly as she had made many friends. Her love of traveling led her to explore many states and countries. Joan had worked for Saint Peter & Paul School as a custodian until her retirement. She will be missed by her children, Michael Popowchak, Thomas Popowchak and his wife, Carolyn, David Popowchak, all of Ansonia, Maryann O’Hara and her husband, Jeffrey, of Seymour, and Sandra McFarland and her husband, Francis, of Naugatuck, her grandchildren whom she adored, Michele, Tabitha, Matthew, Joshua, Makayla, Caitlyn, Amanda, and Thomas, three great-grandchildren, her brother, Richard Wysocki, of Southbury, sister, Constance Yeager, of Ansonia, and many dear friends. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, to arrive at Saint Peter & Paul Church, 105 Clifton Avenue, Ansonia, for a Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Saint Peter & Paul Cemetery, Chatfield Road, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The Panakhyda services will be held on Sunday at 6:00 PM and on Monday at 9:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Peter & Paul Preservation Fund.
