Obituary of Evelyn Zavednak

Evelyn Zavednak, age 97, of Derby, beloved wife of the late Steven Zavednak, died peacefully on March 10, 2019 in the comfort of her home. Born in Ansonia on June 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Molly Madzik. Mrs. Zavednak was a lifelong member of Three Saints Orthodox Church and a resident of Derby for 68 years. An avid reader and excellent communicator, she understood the value in listening versus speaking; thus being an appreciated resource for many common sense issues. Mrs. Zavednak is survived by her loving children, Steven (Carol) Zavednak and Joan (Kenneth) Bestenbostel, and cherished grandchildren Robin and Christopher Headden. In addition to her husband of 67 years, she was predeceased by sisters, Anna (Jake) Horelick, Rose Madzik and brothers, Edward Madzik, John Madzik, Jr. The family would especially like to thank two very special friends, Patricia Barretto and Marie Carr, who so tenderly, compassionately, and tirelessly helped us care for our Mom during the last weeks of her life. Special thanks also to Fr. Patrick Burns for his spiritual guidance and support during this very difficult time. Not to be forgotten are the Masonicare-At-Home nurses, aides and support staff who were always on call to help us in any way we needed. Arrangements for the Funeral services and interment were private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Three Saints Church Maintenance Trust, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia, CT 06401.
