Obituary of Joan C. Austin

AUSTIN - Joan C. Austin, age 80, of Seymour, died August 9, 2015 at the CT Hospice, Branford. Born in Danbury on November 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Rosalyn Zwecker Chuvala. Mrs. Austin was a long time resident of Seymour and worked as an Insurance Agent for the HRH Insurance Co. for 15 years, until her retirement in 1990. Previously, she was the Personnel Manager of the former Schott Electronics Co., for over 20 years. Mrs. Austin was an avid bird watcher, a voracious reader and enjoyed pastel painting. She was an active and devoted member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oxford for over 40 years. Mrs. Austin sang in the Choir, was a member of the Church Council and volunteered in countless activities where she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, LauraLee Austin of NH and Warren & Janet Austin of Oxford; sisters, Rosalyn Chuvala of NY and Betty Jane Ross of Danbury; brothers, Thomas & Nicki Chuvala of MD and David & Katherine Chuvala of Southbury; grandson, Kyle Austin of Oxford, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 1:00 PM, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Road, Oxford. Interment will be private.
