Obituary of Helen R. Flood
Helen R. Flood, age 95, of Townshend, VT (formerly of Ansonia and Seymour) beloved wife of the late William P. Flood died on November 27th, 2015 at West River Valley Assisted Living Center in Townshend, Vermont. She was born in Ansonia, Connecticut on November 16th, 1920 to Jacob and Mary Rotko Nyscot. Mrs. Flood was a graduate of Ansonia High School class of 1938. She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church and member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian School. Helen was active in the Mother’s Club, Ladies Club, and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. During WWII and while her husband served overseas, she was an Air Raid Warden and worked in Sponge Rubber, a Raytheon Company during war time. She loved to sing in her St. Macrina’s Church Choir. Later in life, she became a Senior Citizen Volunteer and offered her time at the Shelton Connecticut Center for eleven years. A member of the choral group, Young at Heart Line Dancers, Helen sang and danced with her late husband’s Senior Center Band, “The Vagabonds”. They visited and performed at all nursing and senior housing centers in the Valley. She was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb. Her beautiful flowers surrounded her home inside and out. When she moved to Seymour to be closer to family, she brought many of those flowers with her there and then later into her apartment in Vermont. Her friendliness, cheerfulness, generosity and kindness was felt by all who knew her. Mrs. Flood is survived by her daughter, Patricia and son-in-law Earl Holtz of West Halifax, VT, granddaughter Laura and husband Ronald Raffone of Seymour, CT, granddaughter Kathleen and husband James Corris of Cheshire, CT, as well as four great grandchildren, Noah and Autumn Raffone and Benjamin and Allison Corris. Helen is also survived by her niece Carol Stumpf and her husband Joseph of Maine and niece Sylvia Foster and husband Fred of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband William of forty five years, her great granddaughter Karen Lynne Holtz, her sister Stephania Cirkot, and brother-in-law Stephen Cirkot. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 AM in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 105 Clifton Avenue, Ansonia. Interment will directly following Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may at the funeral home from 9:00 to 10:45 AM prior to Mass; Panikhida will be at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Preservation Fund of Sts. Peter & Paul Church.
