Obituary of Maryann Stochmal
Maryann Stochmal, age 91, beloved wife of Charles P. Stochmal of Seymour, died peacefully on May 6, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Dudik Pesta. Mrs. Stochmal was a graduate of the New Haven State Teacher’s College (now SCSU) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked as an elementary school teacher for the Ansonia and Seymour public school systems prior to her 21-year teaching tenure at St. Michael School of Derby. Mrs. Stochmal was a devout communicant of St. Michael Church, Derby, where she served as a dedicated Eucharistic Minister and tireless volunteer on many committees. She was a member of the Polish Falcons, Nest 36 of Ansonia and the Catholic War Veteran’s Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1562 of Derby. Mrs. Stochmal was a voracious reader of mystery novels, a skilled jigsaw puzzler, and a master knitter of countless slipper/socks, which she generously gifted to all. She will be long remembered for her steadfast and solid Catholic Faith, never wavering despite the hardships and injustices that shattered her family. In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by by her devoted children, Charles Stochmal of Seymour, Paul Stochmal and his wife Karen of Derby, Marianne Heffernan and her husband, Michael of Southbury, James Stochmal of Oxford, and Joseph Stochmal of Seymour; her cherished grandson, Lucas Stochmal of Oxford; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Stochmal was predeceased by an infant daughter, Janet Stochmal, her precious twins, Joyce T. and John D. Stochmal; daughter-in-law, Mardel Stochmal; a sister, Eileen Hackert Stevens and brothers, Paul and Stephen Pesta.
Friends and Family may call on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will take place from Wakelee Memorial on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.
