Obituary of Lucas James Stochmal

Lucas James Stochmal, age 27, of Oxford, died peacefully June 19, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Born on May 1, 1996, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the beloved son of James T. Stochmal of Oxford and the late Mardel Kuulei Stochmal.

Lucas was a lifelong Valley resident, a lifelong communicant of St. Michael Church and a 2014 graduate of Oxford High School. He was employed as a skilled landscaper and leadman with Prestige Landscaping Inc. of Seymour for the past nine years. In his younger years, Lucas played basketball at St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby and continued to enjoy the game recreationally with his friends. As a child, he also participated in the cub scouts, karate training, and flag football, and played high school football during his freshman year. He grew to love the outdoors, whether it was fishing or taking in the serenity of his backyard. He loved animals and had several pets through the years, including a turtle, a rabbit, and several cats and dogs. Lucas enjoyed the occasional cultural activity, from seeing Broadway shows to visiting museums and attending concerts or ball games. He appreciated new experiences, following his inquisitive nature to embrace life. After graduating high school, he became an avid reader, and became interested in motivational books, searching for ways to improve himself and enrich the lives of people around him. Like his mother and grandmother, Lucas was a member of the Polish Falcons of America Nest 36. The Falcons will gather to honor him with a ritual at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Lucas will long be remembered for the special bond he shared with his mother, for being the cherished and only grandchild of the Stochmal family and as a loyal and caring friend to many.

In addition to his father, Lucas is survived by his paternal grandfather, Charles P. Stochmal of Seymour; uncles, Charles M. Stochmal of Seymour, Paul Stochmal and his wife, Karen, of Derby, Joseph Stochmal of Seymour, Robert Alston of Stratford, Charlie Laskowski and his fiancee, Kandi Young of Naugatuck, Peter Laskowski and his wife, Colleen Burg of Seymour, aunts Marianne Heffernan and her husband, Michael, of Southbury, Nancy Chowanec and her husband, Robert, of Seymour, his godmother Maria Laskowski and her wife, Karen Filippini, of Ansonia, and Julianne Langerud and her husband, Steve, of Cosby, Tennessee; and Lea Laskowski of Huntington Beach, California; as well as his pet dog, “Nova;” many cousins and countless friends.
