Obituary of Donald Gerald Snow Jr.

Donald “Sno-man” G. Snow, Jr., age 79 of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Gage Snow, died peacefully on June 30, 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital with his daughter by his side.  Born in Bridgeport on August 17, 1943, he was the son of the late Donald G. Snow, Sr. and Anne Franzo Snow.  Mr. Snow was raised in Bridgeport and was a 1961 graduate of Bullard Havens Vocational Technical High School.  He was a proud Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Philippines, Thailand and Korea.  Following his military service, Mr. Snow enjoyed a 36-year-long career with United Parcel Service.  He first worked as a package driver in Fairfield County where he delivered to many celebrities including Paul Newman, Martha Stewart, and his favorite, Don Imus. He then transitioned to driving tractor trailers and retired as a feeder driver, hauling tandem trailers from the Stratford hub to New Jersey and Massachusetts. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 191 and remained active in retirement by attending many monthly meetings, breakfasts and retirement celebrations for his fellow drivers.  Following his UPS retirement, Mr. Snow worked as a staff assistant for the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home for 14 years and made frequent airport runs for family and friends. He was a passionate classic car enthusiast, owning several cars throughout the years, including a 1964 Imapla convertible, a 1959 Oldsmobile and his latest, a 1939 Oldsmobile hotrod.  The “Sno-man” was a well-known fixture at local car cruises and car shows.  He was a voracious reader, a lover of all animals and liked to try his luck at the casinos.  He is survived by his children, Diana (Craig Bettini) Snow of GA and David Snow of NH; step-children, John (Milly) Zaleski of Shelton, Janet (Kenneth) Panuczak of Seymour and Robert Zaleski of FL; a sister, Carol (Robert) Bradley of Stratford; a brother, Alfred Snow of MN; grandchildren, Nicholas and Leana Tuggle of GA and Alexa and Caydence Snow of NH; step-grandchildren, Marisa Panuczak of Seymour and Emily Zaleski of Shelton, Joseph (Samantha) Caruso of Shelton and Ryan Caruso of Southbury; loyal neighbors, Kevin Spooner, Ronald (Joanne) Craft and Joseph Foley, all of Ansonia; as well as several nieces and nephews.   A Mass of Christian Burial, Meeting Directly at Church, will be celebrated on August 19, 2023 at 9:00 AM, in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff Street, Ansonia.  All classic car cruisers are invited to join in on the Sno-man’s last cruise (funeral procession) for interment with Military Honors in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, directly following Mass.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Ansonia Animal Shelter, N.
