Obituary of Niles Wesley Hook

Niles “Wes” Wesley Hook, age 82, beloved husband of Sandra Mary Shute Hook of Bethany, died peacefully on November 23, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on January 1, 1941 (First baby of that year in Bridgeport), he was raised in Bridgeport.  Following his high School graduation, Mr. Hook served in the U.S. Army Reserves where he met his lifelong friend Ed Hayduk.  He spent many years in Trumbull by Pinewood Lake where he met the love of his life, Sandra Shute.  They later married in West Haven and spent the better part of their 44 years together in Bethany in the home they built.

Mr. Hook worked as a manager of the engineering time study department for the former AVCO company of Stratford for nearly 40 years, until the time of his retirement in 1996. He was a hardworking man and was skilled in carpentry and remodeling. He enjoyed the peace and tranquility of fly-fishing and was often found reading a good book.  Most of all he enjoyed spending his time with his beloved wife Sandy and their Corgis, Winston and Lady.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by his stepson Brenton “Bo” Synder and his wife, Mirna of Liberty Lake, Washington; step-grandchildren Ryan Snyder of Bristol and Katie Snyder of Middlebury.  Predeceased by his parents Wesley and Josephine Hook, his step-daughter in law Linda Snyder (survived by her children Cassie Flaherty, Tyler Spilker, and William Spilker all of Washington).
