Obituary of Stephen Madigosky
Stephen Madigosky, age 92 of Georgia, formerly of Florida and Connecticut, husband of the late Joan Tomasheski Madigosky, died peacefully on December 16, 2023, following a brief illness. Born in Seymour on July 19, 1931, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Gracon Madigosky. Mr. Madigosky was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. In his first year of duty, he served with the White House Ceremonial Honor Guard, standing with President Harry Truman as he greeted heads of state and dignitaries from around the globe. Mr. Madigosky’s unit also provided Military Honors for eligible veterans and active-duty casualties at Arlington National Cemetery. He volunteered for submarine service and graduated from the Naval Submarine School of Groton, CT. He served as a submariner aboard the USS Volador SS490 and was stationed at the Naval Base San Diego. Mr. Madigosky was honorably discharged in 1953 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the China Service Medal. He was a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. of New London, CT. Following his military service, Mr. Madigosky worked as a draftsman and checker for various governmental contractors, until the time of his retirement. In his retirement, he spent several years residing in Florida, enjoying the beach and warm weather. Despite the distance, Mr. Madigosky was a member of the Ansonia North End Reunion Association and remained current with many friends. He is survived by his children, Mark and Gregg Madigosky of CT, David and Lauren Madigosky Genova of GA; 8 cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Madigosky. He will be long remembered for his special love for his family and the quality time he enjoyed with his grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.
