Obituary of Matthew Vincent Student
Matthew Vincent Student, age 72 of New Haven, entered eternal rest on March 4, 2024. Born in Derby on May 17, 1951, he was the son of the late Milton and Josephine Balushak Student. Mr. Student was raised in Shelton and was the class valedictorian of St. Joseph Grammar school, Shelton, as well as St. Joseph High School, Trumbull; he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Assumption University, Wooster, MA. Completing his education, Mr. Student served overseas in the Peace Corps for two years and was then employed as a skilled computer programmer for the former People’s Bank for many years, until the time of his retirement. A longtime New Haven resident, Mr. Student was an avid Numismatist and Philatelist, along with other esoteric interests. An exceptionally intelligent individual, he was self-taught and fluent in several foreign languages. Mr. Student would often listen to classical music, appreciating its range of dynamics, emotions, harmonics and structural organization. He was an amateur pianist and would dabble on his electronic keyboard. Mr. Student will be long remembered for his wicked-dry and understated sense of humor and for his sweet & kind demeanor, who was most content being in his own company. He is survived by his devoted sister, Rosemary Komonyi and her husband, Kevin of Seymour; his loyal feline companion, Precious and many cousins. A graveside funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in Riverside Cemetery, 308 River Road, Shelton.
