Obituary of John Khamsouvanh Asasouk
John Khamsouvanh Asasouk, age 84 of Seymour, CT died peacefully on March 23, 2024 at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, CT with his daughters Tina and Lisa by his side. Born in Pakse, Laos on May 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Bountheung Asasouk and the late Nouthong Sirixay. He was a man of humble beginnings with limited education. He joined the Royal Laotian Army as a teenager and rose up in rank to Captain. He was a POW for 2 years in Laos when the government was overturned. Mr. Asasouk managed to escape the camp and emigrated to the United States with his family. He attended night school to learn how to speak and read in English and earned a GED. He was a mechanic assembler at Avco Textron Lycoming in Stratford, CT and then at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, CT until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and cars and spending time with his family and friends. He was a great orator, he had a story for every situation. He was well respected and admired within the Laotian community. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lynn Thongkhanh; his children, Bay, Vanessa, Tina, and Lisa; and his grandchildren, Raul, Eric, Alexus, Julianna, Marlon, Nicholas, Lily, and Emmett.
Traditional Buddhist funeral services will begin on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 4 PM at the residence, cremation will be held privately on Saturday, March 30, 2024, and traditional Buddhist services will resume on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 10 AM at the residence.
