Obituary of Dorothy M. Dokla

Dorothy M.  Dokla, age 94 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late John Dokla, entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport with her children by her side.  Born in Ansonia on March 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Maxim and Mary Kruk Huzi.  She would recount growing up on their farm on Silver Hill and how during WWII, family, friends and neighbors would all come together to help each other out during those hard times.  She would also say that even though these were hard times economically, she had many fond memories of growing up on the farm with her siblings, she being the youngest.  As a young adult, she especially enjoyed sharing fun with her friends at polka dances.  One of her favorite stories included a time when she was with her friends at a polka dance and spotted John Dokla, telling her friends, “I’m going to marry that guy!”  After raising three children, she returned to the workforce and retired from Teledyne Manufacturing, Ansonia.  She enjoyed baking and sharing recipes with others.  She had a knack for sewing and gardening, again willing to share what God had provided.  Family was of the utmost importance to Mrs. Dokla, only second to her love of our Lord and Savior.  Mrs. Dokla was a lifelong parishioner of Three Saints Orthodox Church, Ansonia.  She was also a member of the American Russian Citizens Club of Shelton.

She is survived by her devoted children, Mary (Deacon Gregory) Curran of Oxford and Alexander Dokla of Monroe; her cherished grandchildren, Katryna (Peter) McCluskey, Timothy Kaimer and Nicole Kaimer, Megan Curran, Thomas (Jennifer) Zultowski and Daniel Zultowski; as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband of 64 years, Mrs. Dokla was predeceased by a daughter, Charlene Olga Kaimer; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Dokla; sisters, Stella Dripchak, Sophie Lucuk, Anna Sawczuk and Mildren Chagin; and brothers, John, Stephen and Michael Huzi.
