Obituary of Connie Lieder
Constance “Connie” J. Lieder, age 79, beloved wife of William “Corky” A. Lieder, Jr. of Oxford, died peacefully at home on July 22, 2024. Born in Derby on December 17, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Stella Konwerski Wailonis. Mrs. Lieder was raised in Ansonia, moved to Seymour in 1953 and was a class of 1962 graduate of Seymour High School. She was a longtime parishioner of the former St. Anthony’s Church, Ansonia and worked as a bookkeeper for over 20 years for the Hylwa-Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home of Ansonia, until the time of her retirement. An Oxford resident since 1977, Connie served on the Town of Oxford’s Elderly Commission under the Orzechowski Administration for many years. She was a passionate animal lover and a fabulous cook – well known for her savory soups and polish specialties, generously shared among family and friends. Connie was an avid crossword puzzler- going as far back to the TV Guide crossword and enjoyed watching her favorite chefs and cooking shows on the Food Network. She will be long remembered for her “spicy” personality, her sense of humor and her numerous comical stories that kept everyone in stitches! - especially the epic Vermont camping adventure!
In addition to her husband “Corky” of 59 years, Connie is survived by her devoted daughter, Colleen M. Lieder of Seymour; sister, Carol Heffernan of Ansonia; brother, Donald Wailonis and his wife, Nancy, of Wallingford; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” J. Heffernan and nephew, Mark Wailonis.
