Obituary of David Blessing Zelanin
David Blessing Zelanin, age 59 of Ansonia, died peacefully on August 14, 2024 at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Derby on May 11, 1965, he was the son of the late Walter A. Zelanin, Sr. and Lillian Blessing Zelanin. Mr. Zelanin was raised in Ansonia and was a 1984 graduate of Ansonia High School where he enjoyed machine shop and automotive shop offered at the Pine High School facility. He was a volunteer firefighter and member of the Webster Hose H&L Co.3 of Ansonia and the Hotchkiss Hose Co.1 of Derby. Mr. Zelanin was employed as a beverage driver for the Ansonia Bottling Works and the Castle Beverage Company of Ansonia, prior to owning and operating Dave’s Tree Service and Scrap Metal, for 20 years, until the time of his illness. A lifelong Ansonia resident, he was an avid NY Giants and Boston Celtics fan. David was often found at the Ansonia Duchess or the Italian Pavilion restaurants where his affable and jovial personality endeared him to many. A gentle soul with an immense heart, David was always willing to help others in need. He will be long remembered as a fun loving and loyal brother, uncle and friend.
Mr. Zelanin is survived by his sister, Kathy Chernovetz of Trumbull; brothers, Walter A. Zelanin, Jr. of Shelton, Russell Zelanin of Ansonia and Paul Zelanin and his wife, Wendy, of Shelton; his cherished nieces and nephews, Leah Chernovetz of VT, Alexis Coutu and her husband, Hayato, of Trumbull, Peter John “PJ” Chernovetz and his wife, Angel, of VT, Matthew Zelanin and his fiancé, Kristina Molnar, of Naugatuck, Eric Zelanin and his fiancé, Caitlin Foothorap, of Shelton, Walter A. Zelanin III of Shelton and Vicky Zelanin of NC; as well as several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Memorial Service in celebration of David’s life will be held at 5:00 PM. Private interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
