Obituary of Emilia Zazulak

Emilia “Mila” Zazulak, age 87 of Shelton, wife of the late Wasyl Zazulak, went home to Jesus on September 13, 2024, at Bridgeport Hospital with her daughter by her side.  Born in Gladyszow, Poland on July 5, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Stefan and Anna Syrotiak Szmajda.  Mrs. Zazulak was raised in Poland and worked as a nurse in the local hospital maternity ward. She immigrated to the United States in 1962 and settled in Shelton, where she resided most of her life. Just two years later in 1964, she faced the sudden and premature death of her husband, Wasyl.  Mrs. Zazulak then devoted her life to raising her daughter and providing her with the best life she possibly could, she was the ultimate "Zlota Mamusia”. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed preparing her polish specialties, especially her pierogi and golabki. Mrs. Zazulak also made the most wonderful Keselica, a traditional Christmas Eve soup that was loved by all!  Despite her childhood in war-torn Poland and being widowed at a young age, Mila had a zest for life! She enjoyed singing, dancing polkas and loved to be surrounded by people.  She will be long remembered for her devout Catholic faith and for her love and devotion for her daughter.  Mrs. Zazulak is survived by her cherished daughter, Ann “Hania” Zazulak of Shelton, a sister, Janka Kolebuk of Poland, as well as several nieces and nephews in Poland.  She is also survived by her beloved “grand kitties” Dariya & Misha.  In addition to her husband, Wasyl Zazulak, she was predeceased by a sister, Maria Szmajda Koch and a brother, Andrej Szmajda.

Family and friends may call on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Funeral services will take place from the funeral home at 8:30 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph Church, 424 Coram Avenue, Shelton.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
