Obituary of Michael Kopchik

KOPCHIK- Michael R. Kopchik, age 68, of Ansonia, beloved brother of Sharon Kopchik of Ansonia, died April 16, 2011 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Derby on October 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Novak Kopchik. Mr. Kopchik was a resident of Ansonia and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church where he served as an altar boy. In his younger years he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, graduated Ansonia High School class of 1960 and the University of New Haven with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, class of 1965. Mr. Kopchik later earned an M.B.A. from Sacred Heart University. He was employed by the Burndy Corp. for 14 years as a Mechanical Engineer, and then worked for various corporations. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, was an avid sports fan and a habitual reader of the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Kopchik was also a fraternal insurance counselor for the Greek Catholic Union. He was very proud of his Eastern Catholic Heritage and enjoyed practicing its traditions, especially during the Pascha Season. In addition to his cherished and devoted sister, he is survived by an aunt, Virginia Ferencz and her husband, John of Ansonia; cousins, Joyce Rencsko Pritchard of NJ, Alex Renscko of Southbury, Paula Gilstein of HI, Kenneth Pawlak of Southbury, Russell Pawlak of Seymour, Janice Decho of Branford, Alan Decho of SC, Jack Ferencz of Westport, Suzanne Weinz of Southington, Robert Ferencz of Seymour, Thomas ferencz of Bethany, Eileen K. Donnelly and Lorraine K. Lieb, both of MA; as well as many second cousins. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Parastas will be held at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts.
