Obituary of Julianna Gazy

GAZY- Julianna (Jule) Gazy, age 93, of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Michael Gazy, died February 3, 2012 in Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Pittston, PA on March 11, 1918 to the late Michael and Mary Kopesa Czar. Jule graduated from Pittston, PA High School and attended Wilkes Barre, PA Nursing School. She moved to New York City where she worked as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital. World War II called and she enlisted in the Army Nursing Corp where she served both stateside and overseas in Africa, France and Italy. She was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded the European Theater Ribbon with 3 Stars. She was married in Pittston, PA and moved to Ansonia shortly thereafter. In 1965, she returned to nursing at Griffin Hospital in Derby where she retired in 1985. Mrs. Gazy was a member of the Saint Peter & Paul's Church, and participated in many Church organizations including the Mother's Club and Prayer Group. She was founder and President of the church's Chapter of the Valley Parish Nurses Group. She conducted numerous workshops and clinics as well as maintaining a large health reference library. She leaves behind three sons: Michael, David and John Gazy, all of Ansonia; four sisters: Helen Akulonis, Catherine Dudzinski, Margaret Russo and Lillian White; and numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and in-laws. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, John, Michael, Nick and George; and a sister: Mary Costa. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Panikhida at 6:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts.
