Obituary of Robert Burns

BURNS-Robert G. Burns, age 74, beloved husband of Doris Dripchak Burns of Seymour, died February 27, 2012, at Griffin Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Derby on December 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Louise Garnett Burns. Mr. Burns was a lifelong Seymour Resident and 1955 Graduate of Seymour High School, remaining active in the alumni association as well as planning their annual reunions. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving 7 years in the National Guard and worked as a manager in the overhaul and repair department of Sikorsky Aircraft for 41 years, until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Burns was an active communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd, a member of the Russian Club, Secretary of the G.C.U., the Seymour Senior Center and Sikorsky Retiree's club. He was an avid reader, gardener and sports buff, a loyal fan of the NY Yankees and Giants, but truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in many sports and activities. In addition to his devoted wife of 50 years, he is survived by his dear children, Jennifer (Mark) Ignace and Kenneth (Carmela) Burns, all of Seymour; sisters, Mary-Etta (James) Potter of Seymour, Louise (Matthew) Milardo of Ansonia; brothers, Daniel T. (Florence) Burns of VA and Francis T. (Geraldine) Keith of Naugatuck; cherished grandchildren, Robert Daniel and Michael Peter Burns, Brittany, Benjamin, Brianna and Joshua Ignace, all of Seymour; as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Mr. Burns was predeceased by a sister, Frances Burns Nasatka. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
