Obituary of Mary McCarthy

McCarthy-Mary O'Shea McCarthy, age 99 of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late James B. McCarthy, died peacefully in her home on January 30, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Born in Valencia Island, Co. Kerry, Ireland on April 22, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Catherine O'Shea . Mrs. McCarthy emigrated from Ireland to the U.S. in 1930 and has since been a resident of Bridgeport. She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church where she belonged to the Rosary Society and Prayer Group; and a member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Aux. She is survived by her devoted children, Kathleen McCarthy Swanton of Colebrook, James B. (Elizabeth) McCarthy of Milford, Brendan C. (Kathleen) McCarthy of Bridgeport and Jerry F. (Patricia) McCarthy of Shelton; a brother, John (Dolores) Shea of Trumbull; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McCarthy was predeceased by her daughter, Sr. Mary McCarthy, RSM and grandson, Christopher McCarthy, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial, MEETING DIRECTLY AT CHURCH, will be celebrated in St. Ann Church, 481 Brewster St., Bridgeport on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Family and friends may call on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave., Bridgeport.
