Obituary of Daniel Burns

Burns-Daniel Thomas Burns, age 82, beloved husband of Florence Callahan Burns, of Centreville, VA, died peacefully on September 25, 2013, in Prince William Hospital, Manassas, VA. Born in Derby, on March 21, 1931, he was the son of the late Daniel Anthony and Louise Etta (Garnett) Burns. Mr. Burns was raised in Seymour and was a 1948 Graduate of Seymour High School. Following his graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Burns was a Cryptologist for the U.S. Air Force, serving in Germany, France, Japan, Vietnam, Turkey, Portugal, and many States including Alaska. Following his decorated 27 year career with the Air Force, Mr. Burns then worked for the Bendix Co. of VA for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1, Paris, France, as well as the Seymour Russian-American Club. In addition to his wife of 27 years, he is survived by his children, Daniel T. (Jenna) Burns, Jr., Frances (David) Adkisson, and Andrea Burns, all of TX; sisters, Mary-Etta (James) Potter of Seymour, Louise (Matthew) Milardo of Ansonia, sister-in-law, Doris Dripchak Burns of Seymour; brother, Francis (Geri Stotz) Keith of Naugatuck; grandchildren Krista (Gavin) Veiga, Aaron Burns, Lauren Adkisson, Christopher Adkisson, Joshua Criswell, Matthew Criswell, Amy Santiago, Mia Santiago and Michael (Tami) Burns, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Luke and Loryn Burns; as well as many nieces, nephews and his former spouse, Irene A. Rakowski Burns of TX. He was predeceased by a son, Michael R. Burns; sister, Frances Burns Nasatka and brother, Robert Burns. A Mass of Christian Burial, meeting directly at church, will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends may call directly at church on Monday Morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, prior to Mass.
