Obituary of Daniel R. Waleski
WALESKI – Daniel R. Waleski, age 89, of Derby, died April 9, 2014 at the Regency House Health Care Center, Wallingford. Born in Waterbury on December 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Bernard F. and Mary A. Zmyewski Waleski, Sr. Mr. Waleski was a lifelong resident of Derby and Communicant of of St. Michael Church. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary-St. Michael School and graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management. Mr. Waleski was a proud Navy Veteran of WWII. Following his military service, he was employed with the Farrel Corp., GE and Westinghouse. Mr. Waleski was an active Valley Veteran and member of AMVET Post 43, American Legion, Catholic War Veterans and the Derby Historical Society. Because of his commitment and attendance in many Derby Civic Meetings, Mr. Waleski was named Derby’s first-ever “Derby Citizen of the Year” in 2011. He is survived a niece, Katherine Waleski Roland, and several nephews, Bernard Waleski, III, Gerald Reich, Robert Reich, Kenneth Reich, Paul Waleski and Scott Waleski, as well as several great nieces, great nephews and great, great nieces. He was predeceased by sister, Henrietta Waleski Reich and brothers, Eugene Waleski, Bernard L. Waleski, Jr., and Leonard H. Waleski. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 9:30 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Ave., Derby at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, prior to Mass.
