Obituary of Anfym Opekun

OPEKUN - Anfym "Art" Opekun, age 89 of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Eugenia Onischuk Opekun, died May 14, 2008, in the Hilltop Health Center, Ansonia. Born in Ansonia, on September 16, 1918, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Mary Kuziak Opekun. Mr. Opekun was a life long resident of Ansonia, a life long member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, and a US Army veteran of WWII. He worked for the B.F. Goodrich Co. for 27 years, until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Opekun was a member of the Ansonia Senior Center, American Legion, Shelton and the Russian American Club of Shelton. He is survived by his devoted nephew Paul Juzwishen of Ansonia, as well as many cousins. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Funeral Service will be held in Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Three Saints Cemetery in Derby. Family and friends may call on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial Prayers will be held at 6:00 PM. Contributions may be made to Three Saints Church.
