Obituary of Joan Elsie Benjamin
BENJAMIN - Joan Elsie Benjamin, age 81 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Eugene Lindsay Benjamin, died peacefully on May 8, 2015 at the Village Green Health Care Center, Wallingford. Born in New Haven on September 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Ingeborg Lind Hallden. Mrs. Benjamin was raised in Branford and was a graduate of Branford High School. A member of the Swedish VASA Order of America, she was an accomplished accordion player and taught accordion lessons for many years. Mrs. Benjamin was a member of the Eastern Star and an enthusiastic bingo player; playing in many venues throughout the valley and often traveling to the casinos. She is survived by her devoted children, Lynda Brunswick of Ansonia, Laurie (Skip) Marsh of LI, NY, and Wayne (Lisa) Benjamin of Oxford; a sister, Janet (Frank) Vergason of Branford; brother-in-law,Tord Johnson of Branford; cherished grandchildren, Collin Benjamin, Michael Brunswick, Jr., and Lindsay Brunswick; Adam (Erica) Marsh, Justin (Elaine) Marsh, and Kyle (Frankie) Napoli; great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Easton Marsh. In addition to her husband of 38 years, she was predeceased by a sister, Judy Johnson and son-in-law, Michael Brunswick, Sr. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Family and friends may call on Friday evening from 5:00 PM, prior to the service. Interment will be private.
