Obituary of Louise Bachkowsky

BACHKOWSKY- Louise Bachkowsky, age 98 of West Haven, formerly of Shelton, died April 23, 2009 at the CT Hospice, Branford. Born on September 29, 1910, in Augusta, ME, she was the daughter of the late Sergy and Harpina Fedorey Stepaney. Mrs. Bachkowsky owned and operated a family grocery store in Seymour and Derby for 25 years. She then worked as an assembler for the former Star Pin Co. of Shelton, until the time of her retirement. She was a member of the Shelton Senior Center and Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church and her great love was tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed baking. Mrs. Bachkowsky is survived by her devoted daughter, Antoinette Cherniavsky of West Haven; nieces, Phyllis Fedory of Derby and Marianne Horbal and her husband, George of Ansonia; nephew, Atty. Thomas Lonardo and his wife, Carla of Cheshire; as well as many great nieces and nephews. In 1934, she was predeceased by her husband, Wasil Bachkowsky; son-in-law, Alexander Cherniavsky; her step-father, Thomas Stepaney; a sister, Anne Lonardo; and brothers, Walter Stepaney, Henry, James and Frank Fedorey. Funeral Services will take place from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 9:00 AM. A Funeral Service will be held in Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia, at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
