Obituary of Janet E. Mastrobattisto

Janet Elaine Mastrobattisto, age 76 of Seymour, beloved wife of the late John P. Mastrobattisto, died Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Providence, RI on September 28, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Morton and Ora Jean O’Hara Sangster.  Mrs. Mastrobattisto was a graduate of Shelton High School where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and then earned an Associate’s Degree from Quinnipiac College. A Seymour resident of 48 years, she was a lifelong active member of the First Baptist Church of Shelton and was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. Mrs. Mastrobattisto worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Waterbury foundry of the Ansonia Copper and Brass Co. for over 20 years, until her retirement in 1997. Well known for her exceptional culinary talent, Mrs. Mastrobattisto owned and operated her own catering business for many years, serving a long list of distinguished clientele. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox (despite a family rivalry) and an ardent fan of UCONN Basketball (especially the women), she enjoyed many happy (and a few disappointing) seasons around the TV with family and friends. Becoming a grandmother was her life’s greatest joy; she was ever present in the children’s endeavors and shared her warm, gentle spirit in every embrace. Above all, she will be long remembered as the family matriarch, a loving wife, mother and grandmother; always supporting her children, be it academic, athletic or musical talent, as they grew into adulthood and beyond. She is survived by her devoted children,  Dawn McArthur and husband, Randy of Cheshire, Dr. John  Mastrobattisto and wife Tonya, of Madison, and Joel Mastrobattisto of Seymour; a brother, Kenneth Sangster and his wife, Marianne of FL; sisters, Joan LeBelle of RI, Jean Mowbray and her husband, Steve of RI, Judy Marston and her husband, Leonard of Seymour, Joyce Belden and her companion, Devon Chapin of Oxford; cherished grandchildren, Del Mastrobattisto of Seymour, Rosemarie Murdock of Bethlehem, Evan and Morgan Mastrobattisto of Madison; step-grandchildren, Matthew McArthur of Cromwell, Kate Masse and her husband, Nolan of Wallingford, and Ashley McArthur of Wallingford; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 46 years, Mrs. Mastrobattisto was predeceased by brothers, Morton, Richard, Earl and James Sangster. Funeral Services, meeting directly at church, will take place on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Shelton, 178 Leavenworth Rd. (Rte.110), Shelton, CT 06484. Interment will follow in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 17, 2019, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shelton. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
