Dear, Tommy, Jim, Patti, Melanie, Robert and Families, We love and miss our Uncle Jim and he was very dear to us! He, Uncle Gordon & Jim Dorus (Dad & Grandpa to the Dorus-Apys) were great friends growing up In Springdale (Stamford). They went through school together, were Sprigdale Firemen (with Gordon) and married sisters, Betty and Janice Badarick. They were Fireman Heroes who drove engines and ambulances for fires and rescues. In 1955, Jim B. and Jim D. rescued crazy people who tried to drive over bridge at the flooded Springdale Brook on Camp Ave by St. John's Cemetary. They heard calls for help and rescued 2 people who were hanging onto trees with their clothes torn off their bodies by the rushing water! We had a great "firehouse family" with the Ladies Auxiliary, holiday gatherings, parades with the fireman's band marching behind the color guard, all the men and many families in attendance. Then there were many fundraisers like Bingo and carnivals and it was exciting with many families that I'll never forget. The Burns and Dorus Families each had 5 children with many aunts, uncles & cousins who spent a lot of time together especially at the holidays with the Ukrainian foods and picnics at Grannie Burns' house. Now all the cousins are grown up, some with their own families and grandchildren and our delightful memories that are still strong today. Jim was a great Uncle, Dad and, I've heard, a great Papa & grand-dog-dad as well! He told us many happy stories about you all! Even though it is sad (because of the pandemic) that we couldn't celebrate Uncle Jim's long and great life, it was good to see cousins and firemen at the wake. Let's all celebrate the "wonderful life" of Jim Burns! Please accept our deepest sympathies and love from Cousins Kathy ( Dorus), Bob, Brendan and Sharon Apy and Bobby Dorus. God Comfort and Bless Our Family and Friends.
