Obituary of Martin Vallent

Martin “Marty” Andrew Vallent of Monroe, CT passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at The Watermark at 3030 Park, Bridgeport, CT after battling a rare and debilitating form of dementia for several years.   He was 78 years old and is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Janet (Simmel) Vallent.  Also surviving is his son, Brian Vallent and his wife, Kathy, of Moseley, VA; daughter, Heather Vallent, of Dracut, MA; grandchildren, Andrew Vallent, Brandon Vallent, and Elizabeth Vallent of Moseley, VA; sister, Linda Vallent, of Toms River, NJ.  He is predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Annie (Daviadoff) Vallent, and his uncle, John Vallent.   Marty was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 28, 1942.  He grew up and attended school in Union City, NJ.  Marty graduated with a B.S. Degree in Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and then a M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology. As a professional, he had the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to several innovative efforts that shaped our modern world, such as household smoke detectors and medical imagery equipment.  Marty was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather.  A long-time resident of Monroe, Marty was very active in St. Jude's Boy Scout Troop, serving as its committee chair for several years and as a past President of the Monroe Chapter of the National Exchange Club.  He was appreciated and respected by all for his unwavering dedication and thoroughness.  An accomplished bowler in his younger years, Marty also enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, his 1968 Buick Electra 225, and was an avid Boston Celtic fan.  He loved all his grand-dogs especially his favorites; Ashley, Amber and Bailey.  Marty will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.  Friends and family are invited to attend a walk-through visitation at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Monday, March 15, 2021. Please be advised that all protocol, screening and social restrictions of the Covid-19 Pandemic will be exercised.  Funeral Services and Interment in St. John Cemetery, Monroe will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you to consider a donation to the Monroe Conservatory and Land Trust.
