Obituary of Szymon Gebuza

Szymon Gebuza, age 97 of Darien (formerly of Shelton), beloved husband of the late Stefania Gebuza, died peacefully on September 21, 2021 at Griffin Hospital, surrounded by his family.  Born in Ryachwald, Poland on September 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Wasyl and Marta Dokla Gebuza. Mr. Gebuza immigrated to the U.S. in 1965, settled in the Valley and resided in Shelton for many years.  He worked as a machinist for the Former B.F. Goodrich Co. and then for the Ross and Roberts Company of Stratford, for many years until the time of his retirement in 1990.  Mr. Gebuza enjoyed gardening, fishing and being in the outdoors.  He will be long remembered for his devotion to his family and for his compassionate care extended to those in need.  He is survived by his devoted children, Mary (Andy) Kowalczyk of Darien, Roman (Lee) Gebuza of Huntington, and Myron Gebuza of New Canaan; grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Warycha of Norwalk, Illene (Matthew) Dmyterko of Cheshire, Roman Gebuza of Huntington, Janine (Pierangelo) Corticelli of Greenwich, Paul (Danielle) Kowalczyk of Milford, and Kevin (Kristina) Gebuza of CA; as well as eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Stefan Gebuza; sisters, Barbara Warholic, Maria Gebuza and Anna Kowal; and brothers, Michael, Ivan, Stefan and Petro Gebuza. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia.  Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Panikhida at 6:30 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts.
