Obituary of Wesley R. Wheeler

Wesley R. Wheeler, age 87, beloved husband of Janet Verrilli Feather Wheeler of Shelton, died peacefully on November 10, 2021, at Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock.

Born in Bridgeport on December 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Ray E. and Florence McCann Wheeler.  Mr. Wheeler was raised in Stratford and was a graduate of Stratford High School and Babson University. He was the Vice-President of Finance at Norwalk Hospital; VNA of the Valley; and Family Services of Woodfield, until his retirement in 1999.

Mr. Wheeler was a proud 50-year Mason and member of the America – St. John’s Lodge No. 8, Stratford.  He was a longtime RC airplane enthusiast and a founding member and past treasurer of the White Hills Eagles RC Club of Shelton.  Mr. Wheeler loved tinkering with and flying his model airplanes and working on household projects.  He found great peace visiting Klondike, his home in the Berkshires where countless family memories were created.

Together, with his wife Janet, he spent winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida.  He will long be remembered for his affable personality and jovial demeanor, always willing to help others in need.

In addition to his wife of 15 years, he is survived by two children, Douglas Wheeler of Trumbull and Lisa Wheeler of Monroe.  His stepsons Jim and Bob Feather were like sons to him, and he greatly loved his grandson, Maxwell, and “adopted” grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan Feather; nieces and nephew, Wendy, Courtney, and Matthew Christensen. 

Wesley was predeceased by his loving first wife of 42 years, Nancy Beardsley Wheeler; his son, David Wesley Wheeler, and a sister, Lois Wheeler Watson.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will follow in the Huntington Lawn Cemetery, Lane Street, Huntington.
