Obituary of Annette M. Dlugokenski

Annette “Toni” DiGiovanni Dlugokenski, age 80 of Seymour, beloved wife of the late Frederick S. Dlugokenski, died Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by her family.  Born in Derby on June 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine Cisto DiGiovanni.  Mrs. Dlugokenski was raised in Seymour and was a 1959 graduate of Seymour High School.  She then attended St. Raphael School of Nursing, New Haven and graduated with her Licensed Practical Nurse designation.  Mrs. Dlugokenski enjoyed a long career as the Registered Nurse at Dr. Oscar Rogol’s family practice of Seymour, until the time of his retirement. She then worked at area hospitals, nursing homes and group homes, caring for those that could not care for themselves. Mrs. Dlugokenski ended her career as an instructor for the State of CT, Vocational and Technical High Schools, where she taught in the Nurse’s Aide Program. In her retirement, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Seymour Lions Club.  “Lion Toni” served as the club’s Tail Twister, received 100% attendance pins, the president’s award and in 2016 was bestowed with the distinguished “Knight of the Blind Award” for her exemplary service. Mrs. Dlugokenski found an entirely new identity as a grandmother. Her life and love revolved around her precious grandchildren and was fortunate to share countless shopping adventures with them.  She loved the summer, where she could relax poolside and spend quality time spoiling her little dare devils.  Mrs. Dlugokenski had the uncommon ability to make people smile and turn any bad day into a good day.  She spent days on end with her numerous friends and always held them dear to her heart.   Mrs. Dlugokenski is survived by children, Patricia “Pattie” (Scott) Foehrenbach of MO and Fredrick “Rick” Dlugokenski of Seymour; three grandchildren, Ericka, Sara and Fredrick Dlugokenski, all of Seymour; a sister, Gloria (Floyd) Theriault of FL; and a brother, Angelo “Mike” (Janet) DiGiovanni of Seymour.  She is also survived by a niece, Deanna DiGiovanni, a nephew, Bryan DiGiovanni, and great-nephew, Jasper DiGiovanni, all of Seymour; and her former daughter-in-law, Rae Porell Dlugokenski of Seymour.  In addition to her husband of 65 years, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Richard Hallaman.  Funeral services are private.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Spooner House, 30 Todd Rd., Shelton, CT 06484, www.actspoonerhouse.org .  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, CT 06401 is in care of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com. Toni wished to share the following with all… Good Morning. Life never seems to be the way we want it, but we live it the best way we can.  There is no perfect life, but we can fill it with perfect moments. Have a wonderful Day.
