Obituary of Arthur Scott Ballantyne
Arthur Scott Ballantyne, age 96, beloved husband of Frances Ireland Ballantyne of Derby, died peacefully on October 26, 2022, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Bridgeport on March 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur S. and Catherine Sloan Ballantyne. Mr. Ballantyne was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and served as a Seaman First Class aboard the destroyer, USS Winslow in the Atlantic, Pacific and Brazilian Theaters. He worked as a surveyor building highways and other heavy construction projects for the E&F, Frouge and P. Francini construction companies, until the time of his retirement in 1989. Mr. Ballantyne was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 478, the American Legion, Post 50, Ansonia, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Ansonia, and a volunteer firefighter for the Eagle Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 6 of Ansonia. Mr. Ballantyne was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ansonia, where he faithfully served as a Deacon. Even in his retirement, Mr. Ballantyne was never idle, always working on home improvement projects and helping friends and family in need. He was proud of the fact that the town of Tilton, New Hampshire, was founded and named after his father’s family. In addition to his beloved wife of 69 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Scott Arthur Ballantyne of FL, Cynthia (Paul) Sardo of Ansonia, Nancy (Robert) Triantafillos of Oxford, Kathy Ballantyne of SC, Sandra (Ronald) Luneau of Seymour and Lisa Ballantyne of Derby; cherished grandchildren, Scott A. Ballantyne, Jr., Amy Reed, Amanda Dinsmore, Caitlyn Jersey, Michael Sardo, Arthur Joseph “AJ” Cardella, Dr. Jessie Calvanese, Renee Sheckfee and Ronald Luneau, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Landen & Caden Dinsmore, Lillyana & Dallas Reed, and Ava Sheckfee. He was predeceased by brothers, James Rooney and William “Bud” Ballantyne.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
