Obituary of Cynthia L. Moccia
Cynthia L. Moccia, age 56 of Charlotte, NC (formerly of Derby), beloved wife of the late David J. Moccia, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on December 26, 2022. Born in Derby on June 22, 1966, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Goodrich) Masiak. Mrs. Moccia was raised in Derby, attended St. Michael’s Grammar School and was a 1984 graduate of Derby High School. She earned her CNA Certificate and worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center, Stratford, as well as a private duty homecare nurse for many years, until moving to Charlotte, NC in 2015. She continued to work in health care in North Carolina, caring for the elderly and infirmed, until the time of her illness. Cindy loved animals, especially her pets and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She crocheted many blankets and various items for countless people, that are now considered heirlooms. Above all, she will be long remembered for her wonderful cooking and for her special love for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Alyssa M. Moccia of West Haven and son, Nicholas M. Moccia of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Viola (Masiak) Connell and her husband, John of Stratford; and brother Michael and wife Christine (Ouellette) Masiak of Huntersville, NC, brother Charles Masiak and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Hegyi of Huntington; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her Husband of 23 years, she was predeceased by a sister, Marie (Masiak) Hegyi. A Memorial Mass, (meeting directly at church), will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 13, 2023, in St. Michael’s Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
