Obituary of Thomas E. Comcowich, Jr.
COMCOWICH - Thomas E. Comcowich, Jr, age 85, loving husband of Jean P. DeMartin Comcowich of Shelton, died peacefully with his family by his side on November 1, 2015 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Derby on September 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eva (Wanciak) Comcowich. He was a Shelton resident for over 50 years. Early in his career Tom worked at the Evening Sentinel and later as a Senior Field Technician for Northeast Utilities for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a talented athlete playing basketball in many Valley and Bridgeport leagues for teams including Norwood AC, Lodgers and Valley Tigers. He was known as “Graceful Greasy”, the Backboard Ace. Tom was also an accomplished swimmer and diver. In his free time, Tom enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles and playing tennis. In addition to his wife of nearly 63 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Lauren (Nicholas) Steen of Minnesota, Thomas (Lisa) Comcowich, III of Wallingford and Lynn (Kenneth) Damato of Huntington; sister, Anna Mae Pertoso of Ansonia; and cherished grandchildren, Catherine Damato of Bristol, Cassie Steen of Minnesota, and Matthew and Daniel Comcowich of Wallingford. Tom was predeceased by his daughter, Jean P. Comcowich and sister, Evelyn Moore. A Mass of Christian Burial, MEETING DIRECTLY AT CHURCH, will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 10:00 AM in Holy Rosary Church, Father Salemi Dr., Ansonia. Interment will be in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
