Obituary of Rosa Fernandes Alves
Rosa Fernandes Alves, age 95, of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Benjamin Alves, died peacefully on December 16, 2017 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Canedo, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa Mestre Fernandes. Mrs. Alves worked as a garment worker for the Rose Dress Shop of Bridgeport for over 20 years, until the time of her retirement. She was a member of the Woodland Church of Christ, Oxford, for more than 30 years. Mrs. Alves enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking walks and being outdoors. She knitted booties and hats for the family infants and even knitted clothes for her grandchildren’s dolls. She will be long remembered for her special love for her family, especially for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted children, Carmina (Carl) Palarino of Oxford and Benjamin Alves of Ansonia; cherished grandchildren, Skip (Eileen) Palarino of Oxford, Rosa Palarino of AZ, Kyle (Deanna) Palarino of Naugatuck and Zachary Palarino of Oxford; great-grandchildren, Jake, Jessie and Samantha Palarino and Luther and Corrina Palarino; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 48 years, she was predeceased by 6 sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Entombment will follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM, prior to the service. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Rosa’s life will take place on January 14, 2018 in the Woodland Church of Christ, 63 Ancient Highway Oxford, CT, at a time to be announced.
