Obituary of Horacio Lugo
Horacio Lugo, age 92, of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, beloved husband of the late Esther Class Lugo, died peacefully on January 4, 2018 at the West Haven VA Medical Center. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Jose and Petra Rivera Lugo. Mr. Lugo was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal and two Overseas Service Bars. Mr. Lugo was a lifelong resident of Puerto Rico and worked as a Land Surveyor for the Government of Puerto Rico for over 35 years, until the time of his retirement. He enjoyed maintaining his home and property, tending to his many fruit trees and exotic plants creating a tropical paradise. He raised prized cocks and hens, but his canine companion, “Pirita” was the closest to his heart. Mr. Lugo is survived by his devoted brothers and sister, Jose (Socorro) Lugo of Shelton, Victor (Ann) Lugo of FL, Adolfo Lugo of PR and Sonia Lugo of Milford; cherished nephews that he considered grandsons, Vincent Lugo of Beacon Falls and Jason Lugo of AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, he was predeceased by sisters, Alice Olavarria, Moraima Nacovitch; and a brother, Enrique Lugo. A Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2018, in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Interment with Military Honors will be in Puerto Rico National Cemetery, Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
