Obituary of Elizabeth Helen Soukup
Elizabeth Helen Soukup, age 97 of Huntington, beloved wife of the late Frank A. Soukup, died peacefully on March 29, 2018, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Orange on February 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Budzik. Mrs. Soukup was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, serving as a Yeoman 3c WAVE at the Naval Training Schools of the Bronx, NY, Cedar Falls, IA, and Washington DC Naval Base. A lifelong Huntington resident and communicant of St. Lawrence Church, she enjoyed taking part in the St. Lawrence Mothers Circle, as well as many other community activities. Betty was a driving force behind the Cedar Hill block party for over 25 years which brought neighbors together from far and wide. She enjoyed gardening and being outside relishing nature’s wildlife. She is survived by daughters, Liz Crawford of MA, Rebecca Soukup and Barbara Soukup Mason, both of Huntington; sons, Donald (Joeanna) Soukup of Oxford and John (Annette) Soukup of Terryville; a brother, Richard Budzik of Seymour; and five cherished grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 66 years, she was predeceased by an infant son, Edward Soukup; sisters, Jean Shea and Eleanor Budzik; and brothers, Edward and Joseph Budzik. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 10:30 AM in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue, Huntington, CT. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Huntington Lawn Cemetery.
