Obituary of Sonia Lugo
Sonia Lugo, age 80, of Shelton, former wife of James K. Ligouri, died peacefully on June 21, 2018 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico on June 1, 1938. Sonia was the daughter of the late José and Petra Rivera Lugo. She had just celebrated her 80th birthday on June 1st with her family and friends at Wesley Heights in Shelton, CT. Ms. Lugo’s career in the manufacturing industry spanned decades with varied companies including Schick, Cheesborough Ponds, Philips Norelco and later Greenwald Industries. She enjoyed working on her crossword puzzles, playing bingo, bowling, and was an avid watcher of TV game shows – Jeopardy in particular. She was a member of the Milford Senior Center and a resident of Wesley Heights. Sonia was very affectionate, and adored her three grandchildren, and was known by many simply as “Abuela”. Sonia is survived by her daughter, Karen Ligouri (Timothy) Olenski of Milford, CT and her granddaughter Courtney E. Olenski; her daughter, Brenda Ligouri (Jim) Jake of Deep River, CT and her grandsons, U.S. Airforce, Senior Airman John R. Kollmer, Jr., and Dean T. Kollmer; her brothers, José (Socorro) Lugo of Shelton, Victor (Ann) Lugo of FL and Adolfo Lugo of PR, as well as her cherished nieces and nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by sisters, Alice Olavarria, Moraima Lugo Nacovitch and brothers, Enrique and Horacio Lugo. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM led by Father Jaime Marin of St. Mary’s Church in Bridgeport, CT on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Calling hours for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Burial will be private. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
