Obituary of John Dokla

John Dokla, age 90, beloved husband of Dorothy M. Dokla of Shelton, fell asleep in the Lord on  Saturday, November 24, 2018, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.  Born in Bortne, Poland, Mr. Dokla was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Kwochka Dokla.  Mr. Dokla immigrated to the U.S. in 1945 and has since been a resident of Shelton and member of Three Saints Orthodox Church, Ansonia.  He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and worked as a machine repair and maintenance technician for the former B.F. Goodrich Co. until the fire of 1975.  He then briefly found employment with the Shelton Public Works Dept. before once again practicing his trade at Sikorsky for 16 years, until his retirement in 1993.  Prior to his move to the United States during World War II, Mr. Dokla experienced his home being taken over by the German army and used as a hospital.  His home village was also subject to the Russian Army movement toward Berlin.  Mr. Dokla was a member of the American-Russian Citizens Club in Shelton holding several positions including President for 16 years.  He was also a former member of the Lemko Club, Ansonia.  A “fixer”, Mr. Dokla was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.  During his retirement he found joy and relaxation in “puttering around the yard”, going to tag sales, and sharing the fruits of his summer vegetable garden with his family and friends, and mushroom picking in the fall.  Family was of utmost importance to Mr. Dokla, only second to his love of our Lord and Savior.  He will be remembered for his unending love of both.  In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Mary (Deacon Gregory) Curran of Oxford and Alexander (Cynthia) Dokla of Monroe; sisters, Antonia Cap of Shelton, Helen Tichy of Shelton, Amelia Valente of Ansonia, Stefania (Raymond) Savoyski of Seymour; and a brother, Michael (Evelyn) Dokla of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Katryna (Peter) McCluskey, Timothy Kaimer and Nicole Kaimer, Megan Curran, Thomas (Jennifer) Zultowski and Daniel Zultowski; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Charlene Kaimer; and sisters, Maria Dutkanicz and Dorothy Dokla.  Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 28th at 10 AM, meeting directly at Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Three Saints Cemetery, Seymour.  Family and friends may call at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Panakhida Service at 5:30 PM and on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in Three Saints Orthodox Church, prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Three Saints Church or Christ the Savior Church, in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
